Blagojevich today announced a comprehensive state plan to help reduce violence and save young lives. Joined by parents, community leaders, advocates, and clergy at the Martin Luther King Jr. Boys & Girls Club on the City’s west side, the Governor laid out his plan to curb the tide of violence in Illinois. The Governor’s plan, called Community Investment Works, will address a range of factors contributing to youth violence, including the lack of employment opportunities, lack of safe social and recreational opportunities, and disengagement from their communities.

SPRINGFIELD– Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today announced that the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Illinois State Police (ISP), and local law enforcement agencies will conduct the largest Click It or Ticket (CIOT) mobilization in the state's history during the month of May. While Illinois motorists have exceeded the 90 percent mark for seatbelt usage, the aim of the new campaign is to save more lives and by pushing for 100 percent compliance.

Blagojevich today joined state and local officials and representatives from United States Steel Corporation and SunCoke Energy, Inc. to break ground on the companies’ new manufacturing facilities in Granite City. The state’s investment will leverage millions in private investment that will result in the creation of approximately 70 new jobs and the retention of 2,200 jobs throughout the region. The investment package comes as a part of Opportunity Returns, the Governor’s comprehensive economic development strategy to create jobs and build the economy in Southwest Illinois.
