1 seriously hurt in Faribault school bus crash
A Faribault school bus with children on board collided with a sport utility vehicle on Friday, seriously injuring one woman. The Faribault Daily News reports three students on the bus suffered minor injuries and were treated at a local hospital. The injuries were not life threatening.
Class 1A semifinal: Breck 4, Warroad 2
The boys from Breck High School are one victory from becoming the first team to win consecutive Minnesota state hockey championships in nearly two decades. The Mustangs, though, are more concerned about the immediate future than the distant past.
Documents: Investigators look into Hecker's past
Documents recently unsealed in the federal fraud case against former Minnesota auto mogul Denny Hecker show investigators are looking into his business dealings stretching as far back as a decade. The Star Tribune reported Friday that the FBI affidavits show some of the suspected fraud took place well before Hecker's auto empire collapsed in late 2008, and allegedly involved sums ranging from $500,000 to $59 million. The affidavits are not criminal charges.
Childress testifies at Williamses' drug lawsuit
After more than a year and a half of legal maneuvering in their closely watched labor fight with the NFL, Minnesota Vikings defensive tackles Kevin Williams and Pat Williams may finally learn in May if they must serve a four-game suspension for taking a banned substance. Attorneys for the players and the NFL made closing arguments Friday, wrapping up a five-day trial that included testimony from the two players, their coach and an NFL official. The players contend the NFL broke Minnesota law when it applied its anti-doping policy two years ago and are seeking unspecified damages.
Target Field will host MN prep title games in June
The Minnesota state high school baseball championship games will be held at the new Target Field on June 19. The Twins and the State High School League made the announcement Friday. The Class 1A game will be played at noon, followed by Class 2A at 3 p.m. and Class 3A at 6 p.m.
Class 1A: Hermantown 7, Mathomedi 6, OT
It was a ride to remember. Moments after Mahtomedi's apparent game-winning goal was ruled to have come after time expired, Hermantown's Jared Thomas scored 1:14 into overtime to give the Hawks a 7-6 win in the Class 1A semifinal Friday at Xcel Energy Center.
Tri-Continental declares 1Q dividend
Investment fund Tri-Continental Corp. on Friday declared a quarterly dividend of 4.4 cents per common share and 62.5 cents per share of preferred stock. The company said its dividend on common shares will be paid out March 29 to shareholders on record as of March 22.
HickoryTech to pay dividend of 13 cents
HickoryTech Corp., which provides Internet access and other digital services, said Friday its board declared a quarterly dividend of 13 cents a share. The company said the dividend is payable June 5 to shareholders of record as of March 15.
Minn. bill could protect pets from domestic abuse
Lara Peterson's black kitten Ozzie comforted her during a violent relationship. When Ozzie was just five months old Peterson returned home from work to find his lifeless body lying on a trash bag. She believes he was killed by the man who abused her. "What kind of message to send to somebody, to kill their cat? I mean, that's terrifying," said Peterson, who left her abuser six months later. She recounted her story to Minnesota legislators this week to support a bill that would extend domestic violence protections to pets.
