The basic duties of a Trooper include issuing citations, investigating traffic accidents, writing reports and enforcing Maryland state, our Troopers do so much more. The Maryland State Police offer a full range of police services to Maryland residents. We are responsible for the major highways in Maryland and we also patrol and respond to calls within each county. The Maryland State Police is the primary law enforcement agency in many counties across the state.

The Montgomery County Police Department and the Metropolitan Center for the Visual Arts are hosting a training day for “Crime Prevention for Businesses”. This training is for both retailers and commercial businesses. Topics include: shoplifting, employee theft, office safety, fraud scams, embezzlement, suspicious activity, and more. The program is free and business owners and employees are encouraged to attend.
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Robbery Section are investigating the armed robbery of a business that occurred on the evening of
May 6 in Silver Spring. Montgomery County Police 3rd District police officers responded to the Forest Glen Deli, located at 536 Forest Glen Road in Silver Spring on May 6, 2008 at approximately 6:58 p.m., for the report of an armed robbery that had just occurred.
The preliminary investigation revealed that two suspects entered the business and at least one was armed with a gun. The suspects ordered the customers and a clerk to the rear of the business, and demanded money and phones. The suspects then removed an undisclosed amount of cash and took property from at least one of the customers. The suspects fled, entering a red pick-up truck. The suspect vehicle left the parking lot and turned right towards Route 29. No one was injured.

Update: Rockville Bank Robbery Arrest
FBI agents arrested the individual responsible for the April 29 robbery of the Chevy Chase Bank located inside the Giant Food at 12501 Rockville Pike in Rockville. Through the course of investigation, Derrick Scott Aylor, age 24, of no fixed address, was developed as the suspect responsible for the bank robbery.
On May 2, information was developed indicating Aylor was in the area of Charlestown, West Virginia. He was arrested by members of the FBI and local authorities that night in Ransom, West Virginia, and charged with robbery. At the time of his arrest he was in possession of a .25 caliber pistol. Aylor is also wanted by Prince William County Police for an April 21 robbery of a BB&T Bank located in Prince William County, Virginia. He is currently awaiting extradition to either Prince William County or Montgomery County pending resolution of West Virginia charges.

Increase in Residential Burglaries in the Third District
The Montgomery County Police is continuing to investigate numerous burglaries that have occurred throughout the 3rd District. Officers are seeing an increase in daytime residential burglaries specifically in the Fairland, White Oak, Springbrook, and Burtonsville communities.
Various items were taken in each burglary such as flat screen televisions, video game systems, video games, DVD players, laptop computers, cash, and change. A greater concentration of residential burglaries has been occurring in the Saddle Creek, White Oak, Snowden’s Mill, and East Springbrook neighborhoods. Since December 1, 2007, the district has experienced 92 residential burglaries in just those specific areas of the district. Entry methods have varied. The residential burglaries usually occur between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Detectives believe these burglaries are being committed by several different individuals.

Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Train in Garrett Park
Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex detectives are investigating the death of a pedestrian that occurred this morning when he was struck by a train in Garrett Park.
At approximately 6:24 a.m. today Montgomery County Fire/Rescue Service personnel and 2nd District police officers responded to the train tracks in the area of the unit block of Wyaconda Road for the report of a pedestrian struck by a CSX freight train.
Through the preliminary investigation it was learned that a pedestrian was on the tracks as the train approached in an eastbound direction. The 3300 foot train, #Q13007, was traveling from Cumberland, MD to Portsmouth, VA. The train engineer saw the pedestrian, blew the train’s whistle several times, and applied the brakes. The victim did not react, and the engineer was unable to bring the train to a stop before striking the pedestrian. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Arrest Man for Indecent Exposure in Burtonsville
Officers from the Montgomery County Police 3rd District have charged David Marlon Davis, age 36, of no fixed address, for exposing himself to a woman walking her dog in the area of Wexhall Drive and Greencastle Road in Burtonsville.
On Thursday, May 1, at approximately 10:10 a.m., a woman walking her dog near the tennis courts in the neighborhood, observed a black Dodge minivan. She had seen the same minivan on April 8, when its driver had exposed himself in her presence. On May 1, the woman again observed the suspect expose himself and engage in a personal sexual activity. The woman immediately notified Montgomery County Police.
The suspect drove away from the area just before police arrived on scene. A patrol officer also familiar with the vehicle from previously reported incidents observed the vehicle driving away. Montgomery County Police will be conducting a Cinco de Mayo Sobriety Checkpoint as part of our continuing effort to curb drunk/drugged driving and underage drinking. Maryland State Police will be assisting the Montgomery County Police during this checkpoint.
The exact location of the checkpoint will not be disclosed in advance.
